Ari Lennox

Courtney Shanade Salter, born March 26, 1991, and professionally referred to by the name Ari Lennox, hails from Washington, D.C. and was the first female to be signed by J. Cole's Dreamville Records label. Her debut EP Pho on October 21, 2016 was released via Dreamville Records. It was at this point that she began to get notoriety. Shea Butter Baby is her debut album. It was released in May 2019. Ari Lennox released her debut tracks online in 2012. Her first album was Five Finger Discount in 2013 and Ariography EP in 2013. She continued to upload her music via the web including her self released single Bound. In 2015she sung in Omen's Elephant Eyes Album in the song Sweat it out on July 21. J. Cole, who was part of the Dreamville crew at the time and wanted her to work on Rihanna and Rihanna-related songs. Her contract was signed officially with Dreamville Records on 8 December. Backseat is a track that which she co-wrote alongside Cozz for the Revenge of the Dreamers II album that they co-produced. She dropped Pho, her debut EP on the 21st of October 21st, 2016. Ari Lennox appeared in J. Cole's Change song, and performed on her own tour, the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour 2017. In 2018 she went on to appear in two songs featuring her label-mates EarthGang with Nothing but the Best and Bas on Icarus. Ari Lennox debuted her first single, Shea Butter Baby, Whipped Cream on July 16, 2018. The music video launched in September. In November, she released the singles 40 Shades of Choke & Grampa. On November 13 she then came out with two additional singles, The No One as well as Pedigree. She then appeared on the Creed II soundtrack with Cole on a track called Shea Butter Baby on November 16, and it was released as a single on February 26th, 2019 for her debut album the same name. The track was accompanied by the release of a music video that was released on February 20, 2019 and reached 3 million views on YouTube in the first week. In December 2018, she was part of the From East Atlanta With Love Tour featuring 6LACK.
